Reynolds Contracting is proud to be an Affiliate Member of the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors (CAAR). We pay dues to this trade organization that generously gives back to the community through various programs and initiatives in Charlottesville and surrounding areas. We were able to see our membership dues in action this week in a very personal way, partnering with CAAR to help veterans.
Our estimator/project manager Phil Reynolds is a Marine veteran who was deployed to Iraq in 2005. We welcomed Phil and his fellow Marines home to their Reserve Unit in Roanoke, Virginia on a sunny, fall day 12 years ago. The homecoming was an emotional celebration for family and friends as we all embraced these brave patriots for the first time since their deployment.
We were again filled with emotion when we received an email this week from CAAR about Corporal Kevin Blanchard, one of Phil’s fellow Marines. Cpl Blanchard was deployed to Iraq with Phil’s Reserve Unit, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division. While on patrol, his vehicle was hit with an improvised explosive device (IED), leaving Kevin severely wounded and ultimately resulting in the loss of his left leg.
The email we received announced Kevin as the recipient of a new home built through Homes For Our Troops. This non-profit organization builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.
Today Cpl Blanchard received a different homecoming as he received the keys to his new home in Crozet. You can view the key ceremony on Facebook. CAAR, alongside Virginia REALTORS, supports Homes For Our Troops through dues from members like us. What a joy it was to see Kevin and his wife receive such a blessing and to know we had a small part in building his new home! We are honored in partnering with CAAR to help veterans like Kevin and others in the community.
