We recently completed a job that began with another contractor who didn’t have our same high standards, unfortunately.
The homeowner contacted us after discovering water in their basement. Previously they had hired a contractor who claimed to have years of experience, but it became clear that this contractor did not have the technical wisdom to complete the job properly. When looking for a contractor, general experience is good, but experience coupled with skill, proper training, and competency is best. Because the original contractor proved to be inept, the drainage trench wasn’t sloped properly, causing water to collect in the ditch. Water was trying to run into a 4” pipe that was laid uphill. Over time, this water collection backed up into the basement.
In order to fix the botched job, we came in with a plan using not only our experience, but also our highly developed skill and proficiency in earthwork and excavation. We used a laser level to ensure positive drainage away from the foundation. From the rear right corner of the house to the back corner of the yard, we excavated a new trench to replace the existing, poorly draining ditch. We used one of our favorite products, Hydraway®, to provide faster drainage and more durability in this high-moisture area.
At the same time, we installed a new downspout drainpipe and connected it to two existing downspouts. This addition to the drainage system will improve water flow beginning with the roof runoff. We like to use PVC pipe for this application due to its stable structure and long-lasting material. When you’re looking for a contractor, make sure they’re using high quality materials like we do!
