In this case, we suggested new downspout drainpipes and regrading of the area around the home. We began work this spring, first contacting the appropriate utility companies to locate any buried elements. Once the utility lines were marked, we were able to start digging the ditch for the downspout drainpipes. We were only able to lay about 14 feet of pipe before we ran into large rock in the path of our trench. Chipping away at the rock took some time, but we were able to get through and hook up several more feet of pipe on the first day.
The next day, we finished digging and installed the gutter pipe. We backfilled the whole trench and replaced any disturbed soil and gravel along the driveway. Up the hill on the other side of the house, we dug a second ditch for another set of pipes that daylighted in the ditch. With this set of pipes, we had addressed all of the waterflow problems around the home. We fine-graded the area, seeded and strawed, and cleaned up the jobsite upon completion of the work.
